Google’s ranking boost to secure HTTPS SSL websites

Google announced recently that they are going to to give a ranking boost to HTTPS (websites that utilise a SSL 2048-bit key certificate). If you are unsure of what these terms mean, see our other blog post about SSL certificates.

Benefits to adding SSL

They will be giving a small ranking benefit to sites that switch from HTTP to HTTPS. This update carries less weight than say, high-quality content, however it is aimed to ‘keep everyone safe on the web’. It comes following the tests they had performed that showed that HTTPS sites showed ‘positive results’ in relevancy and ranking.

Google ranking boost for HTTPS

Not only will you receive a ranking boost but from January 2017, if your site asks for passwords or card information without an SSL certificate, google will label your website as ‘not secure’. It could benefit your business to change from HTTP to HTTPS, especially if you take online payments or sensitive details from your customers. Show your consumers you mean business with an SSL. It will mean that both your customers and Google can see you are a trustworthy business. Unsure how to go about it? Don’t worry, we can arrange the update for you with our dedicated team.
