How does my website get found on Google?

So, you’ve designed a brand new website, together with a design agency to give it that extra flair it needs to stand out online. But now you have your website ready to go live, how will it get found on Google?

Basic ground up SEO

One of the most important things you can do when putting together a website is include relevant and content rich wording on each page. Always ensure that every page has a purpose for what it is to be found for. For example, if you are looking to be found in google for a specific search term, then you must use the term keywords in your website content, otherwise Google will not know that your site is relevant for that search term. At Martin Hopkins, all of our websites are fully considered for ground up keyword building. Without fully exercising SEO services, we ensure any website design includes the correct headings and keywords before launch, so when it goes live Google can find it for the correct keywords.

Google indexing

Upon launch, Google can take from 4-6 weeks to find and index your new website. This means it may not come up in a google search for the first couple of months after launch. Usually it will be found sooner than this, however be prepared to wait a while to be seen in Google. Martin Hopkins will submit a website index to Google to try and speed up this process, almost a way of saying ‘hey, look at this new website’. We will also submit your website for inclusion in Google’s index. Google also says to ‘label your structured content to help users find pages relevant to their search’. This comes back again to ground up SEO.

Get found on google listings

Make sure your content is relevant to Google search terms

A big mistake could be labelling pages incorrectly or including the wrong keywords. When a user clicks on your website, you want them to find the correct content on the page. If they do not, they will leave the site just as quickly as they entered it. The problem with this is that Google will notice this, and deem your website irrelevant to that search term as so many Google users are clicking your site and leaving again within a matter of seconds. This tells Google your web content is not relevant to users, and will affect your Google ranking. As standard, Martin Hopkins will recommend the correct ways to tailor your content. However, without full SEO services, it can be difficult to know which search terms have the most traffic. To really be found on Google, full service SEO is needed to ensure your website is always up to date and using the right techniques as recommended by Google.

Google My Business Listing

Make sure you have set up a Google My Business listing so that people can find you on Google Maps and that Google can verify your business. This will help you get found on Google and will ensure that should people want to contact you, then they can easily find your details by Googling your business name.
