Melo Cymru
Brand naming and accessible bilingual website design for a national wellbeing platform
The brief began with the creation of a new mental wellbeing brand and a small informational website. However, it quickly became clear that the original scope wouldn’t provide the level of support users needed.
People seeking mental health information are often overwhelmed and looking for answers quickly. The platform needed to remove barriers, making trusted information easy to find, simple to navigate and accessible to everyone.
Working closely with the client, we helped redefine the project from a basic website into a fully featured digital resource hub. The platform was designed around the needs of its users, placing clarity, accessibility and ease of use at the heart of every decision.
Alongside the website, we developed the name Melo – an acronym for Manage, Evolve and Learn to Overcome – while also capturing the reassuring feeling of being calm and supported. This became the foundation for a welcoming brand that encourages people to seek help without judgement.
Inclusive by design
Inclusivity became a defining feature of the brand. We created a library of over 30 bespoke illustrated characters representing people from different backgrounds and walks of life, reinforcing the message that mental health affects everyone.
Accessibility was equally important. The bilingual platform integrates ReachDeck accessibility software, giving users a range of tools to personalise their experience and remove barriers to accessing information. The website also includes searchable resources, support services, courses, topic hubs and a secure professional area for training and document management, creating a platform that serves both the public and mental health professionals.
The result
Today, Melo Cymru has grown into one of Wales’ leading online mental wellbeing resources, supporting tens of thousands of users every year.
The platform now provides hundreds of bilingual resources, dozens of courses, extensive support directories and professional training materials, helping people access trusted mental health information quickly and confidently. User feedback continues to demonstrate the impact of the platform, with the overwhelming majority of visitors reporting that they found the resource helpful.
What began as an eight-page website has become a trusted digital service that continues to grow alongside the communities it supports.
“The difference that it is making to people’s mental health and well being is beginning to be evidenced through user feedback and testimonials. We wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without the collaborative approach Martin Hopkins take to working with their partners. Their team now feels like part of our team. We couldn’t have achieved the local accolades we are receiving without them!
I have also admired your ‘can do’ flexible attitude. It’s been brilliant working with Martin Hopkins. I have heard nothing but positive praise (and a bit of jealousy) about the website.”
