Virtual reality – what a game changer. It’s been around for decades, but only now is it becoming more prominent and affordable. Previously it was less affordable, now it’s much more frequent for virtual reality headsets to be used with our mobile phones. But what is ‘Virtual Reality’?
What is ‘Virtual Reality’?
Wikipedia defines Virtual Reality as: the computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment, such as a helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with sensors.
Estate agency and virtual reality
Usually if you think of virtual reality, you think futuristic headsets. But that isn’t necessarily the case. You can purchase very basic headsets made of cardboard that mean you can turn your phone into its own virtual reality headset. VR is a very immersive experience, one that is likened to actually being in a place in person. That is where our work with Jeffrey Ross comes in.
In the case of Estate Agency, virtual reality has opened up a whole new world of virtual online viewings. In this case, Jeffrey Ross came to us wanting to integrate an VR experience that meant potential tenants or buyers could view a property without even having to leave their own home. As you can imagine, this type of work was very exciting for us, and we couldn’t wait to get stuck into integrating the new VR with their updated website design.
How we handled VR
Though it was not without it’s complications, we strove to get the work completed to a high standard, and we think it looks very impressive on the new property pages. When you search for the properties, you can see the new JRVR icon in the corner if there is a virtual reality experience tagged to that property. Once you click through, you find a full edge to edge experience and tabs that allow you to either select specific part of the property, see the dollhouse floor plan or you can navigate the home in the window by clicking the circles pinned to the floor in the VR window. All of this is achievable through the VR company Matterport. If you would like to view the property with a personal headset, you can download the Matterport app and view it that way. However, Jeffrey Ross have a set up in their offices whereby you can use their new virtual reality headsets to view multiple properties in one go and in all in one place; no need to drive around from property to property. What previously took hours can now take minutes.
Jeffrey Ross have always looked for innovative ways to improve Estate agency, previously with their integration of video tours and now, with the integration of virtual reality viewings. The new JRVR will revolutionise the way people in Cardiff view properties and really improve the online experience for their customers. Gone are the days when you can only see snippets of a property through images and floor plans (what an old fashioned standard that is becoming!). Property marketing has undergone an online revolution, and Jeffrey Ross are among the first in the UK and assumed the first in Wales to introduce the new VR technology to the property market.
So, what do we think?
Personally, we love the new VR. You can see the entire property from top to bottom. Seamlessly move from room to room and explore the house as if you were there yourself. As a potential buyer this means you can see the property as it is; there are no hidden corners or exaggerated spaces. What you see is what you get. It’s an incredible revolution in the property market and we were very excited to be a part of it.
