A brand with character

This brand would be nothing without it’s illustrative touch. We created over 30 different characters, all from different walks of life to represent as many people as we could. Mental health does not discriminate, and neither does Melo Cymru. Public Health Wales wanted to be sure that Melo provided inclusive mental wellbeing resources to all.

Inclusive by design

Melo Cymru is for everyone. We wanted to represent as many demographics as we could. We created a diverse collection of characters showcasing that mental health can affect anyone. Melo Cymru’s aim is to create and normalise conversations about mental wellbeing across Gwent and UK. It is designed to make the visitors feel part of a welcoming community where they can research and understand their mental health, without shame or judgement.

Accessible web design first

At a time where essential communications are being delivered in a digital-first way, it was even more important that accessibility was at the forefront of this web design. We installed state of the art software Browsealoud to provide visitors with instant access to supportive features, helping to reduce barriers between Melo’s digital content and diverse online audiences.

Website Development Features

This website is not only a large resource for those in need of self-help mental health resources, but it is also an area for the Gwent Connect 5 trainers to login and access files. Within this section of the website, people who are training to become Gwent Connect 5 trainers can access hidden content to aid their training and improve the conversation around mental wellbeing. Something that is so important and very close to our hearts.

As a bilingual Welsh brand, the website also has an easy to use language switch so users can access the resources in both languages! With one click, users can choose to use the site either in English or Welsh. That, together with the accessibility software makes this website as accessible to all as possible. After all, mental health does not discriminate and neither does Melo Cymru.

From pitch to launch in 3 months

Designing and developing a brand and website is a careful and laborious process, however, due to the pressing nature of 2020 (you don’t need a reminder do you?) ABUHB were aiming to launch asap.

In the span of 3 months, our team worked tirelessly to craft a memorable brand + brand assets and application, functional website, over 30 sets of illustrated characters, motion and social media content in readiness for the launch.

“I have also admired your ‘can do’ flexible attitude. It’s been brilliant working with Martin Hopkins. I have heard nothing but positive praise (and a bit of jealousy) about the website.”

Motion devotion

To accompany a great cause such as mental wellbeing, it was important to create an explanatory video for Melo Cymru to explain their ethos. From start to finish, we collaborated with ABUHB to create a script, storyboard, voiceover and translation to ensure this motion design was created in both English and Welsh.

“The team at Martin Hopkins have been great to work with. They have helped us develop a great new website and marketing campaign for Melo to help us promote mental wellbeing in Gwent. They have been professional and had a ‘can-do’ attitude from the outset, delivering the products as per the brief on a short timescale.”
