A Low Carbon Wales.
We were approached by the Welsh Government who were looking for a bespoke, bilingual brochure design for their Low Carbon Delivery Plan – one of the biggest plans they have produced in recent years. They needed a bilingual document, as well as 8 bilingual fact sheets and social media illustrations. We began working on a detailed brand style and layout strategy for the bilingual design.
The initial plan was complex and needed simplifying for a wider audience. We produced modern illustrations and graphs to convey the plan’s goals without the need for extra copy. It was important to stay in keeping with the brand guidelines for Welsh Government, as well as the Prosperity for Wales branded material. We created a simple and easy to read layout style for the plan – and then the hard work really started.

Effective illustrations
The illustrations were carefully created by our in house illustrators and graphic designers, simplifying complex policies and proposals into easy to understand graphic communication. Each item was created with a purpose for either their plan or their social media, to create a friendly and understandable ethos for a low carbon Wales. Injecting these illustrations throughout the plan not only broke up the text heavy document, but it also brought the print design to life with visual representations of the ideas put forward in the plan.
Welsh bilingual design
What mattered the most on this bilingual brochure design project was the super fast turnaround. With well over 100 people involved in the plan, we had just 2 working days to turn around the Welsh version of the 210 page document. Impossible you say? Not for Martin Hopkins. We worked solidly to ensure the Welsh plan was delivered in time for its launch on the 21st of March. With television exposure and interest from the press, this bilingual project really shone as a forward thinking plan for a low carbon Wales.
